WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Former Purdue men's basketball players and coaches will return to West Lafayette on Aug. 23 and 24 for the Purdue Basketball Family Reunion and Gene Keady Roast.

The activities will begin on Friday, Aug. 23, at 12:30 p.m., with a golf scramble at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. The event is open to the public and will feature numerous former Purdue basketball players.

Fees are $450 for a threesome, with a former player or coach assigned to play in the fourth spot. Hole sponsorships also are available for $100 each.

On Saturday, Aug. 24, there will be a roast of head coach Gene Keady at the Cumberland Place Exhibition Center in West Lafayette. The evening will begin with cocktails at 6 p.m. and will be followed by dinner and roast speeches by former players. The cost is $400 for a table of 10. Individual dinner tickets may be purchased for $50 each.

Dan Washington, a Lafayette businessman, who is co-chairing the event, hopes the gathering will bring together fans both old and new.

"It's the first reunion of Purdue men's basketball players in nearly 10 years," said Washington. "We're hoping to draw a dynamic crowd of long-time fans as well as more recent fans.".

Former point guard Brian Walker, who is Washington's co-chair believes some of the all-time great Boilermakers will be participating in the weekend's activities.

"We're expecting some top players to return to town for the weekend," Walker said.

Keady, who is entering his 23rd season as Purdue head coach, is looking forward to welcoming back the former Boilermakers.

"It will be very exciting for me to be able to see all the familiar faces," said Keady. "It's also important for the players to know that they all belong to a family. I'm looking forward to the event and having a chance to catch up with everyone involved."

Former players already committed to attend include NBA players Brad Miller of the Indiana Pacers and Brian Cardinal of the Detroit Pistons. Others include Chuck Bavis, Troy Lewis, Clyde Lyle, Cuonzo Martin, Carl McNulty, Todd Mitchell, Eugene Parker and Everette Stephens. Former assistant coaches Bruce Weber, now at Southern Illinois, and Steve Lavin, now at UCLA, also will attend.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Lyn Treece Boys and Girls Club in Lafayette. The club, which serves about 1,200 youths ages six to 18 each year at two Lafayette sites, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
